Every July, City Paper’s arts team begins brainstorming for the Fall Arts Guide—a massive undertaking that celebrates the very best of D.C.’s creative culture, its fantastic venues, and its multitude of gifted creators. But it’s been a hard year to celebrate, even if we all understand the importance and value of art.

Perhaps that’s why this year’s theme, How To Make a Scene, struck a chord. It’s about coming together, it’s about making our feelings known, it’s about taking a stand for what’s important.
