ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Animal Humane New Mexico issued a warning to the community on Monday about a recent scam call involving lost pets.
The nonprofit organization said multiple people recieved calls from scammers claiming that their missing pet was in Animal Humane’s care and in need of emergency surgery at its donor-subsidized Veterinary Clinic.
“We know how frightening it is to think your beloved pet may be injured, especially when lost, and these scammers are preying on that fear,” Val Wilson, executive director of Animal Humane New Mexico, said in the news release. “We urge our community to stay vigilant, verify any suspicious calls, and contact us directly with concerns. Do not share personal or financial information.”
In the calls, the scammers claimed their name was “Dr. Si
