The Trump administration on Monday said it had arrived at a deal with China that will determine the fate of the popular video-sharing app TikTok.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said officials from both countries have agreed on a “framework” that would enable the app, owned by Chinese company ByteDance, to continue operating in the United States.
The Trump administration, Bessent said, has been seeking an arrangement “that is fair for the Chinese and completely respects U.S. national security concerns, and that’s the deal we reached.” He went on to say: “We want to ensure that the Chinese have a fair, invested environment in the United States, but always that US national security comes first.”
