FLAT ROCK, N.C. (WSPA) -- Governor Josh Stein announced Monday morning in Flat Rock that he is requesting nearly $13.5 billion in new funding from Congress for Hurricane Helene recovery efforts in Western North Carolina.

The funds were requested during a morning press conference and are intended to restore homes and small businesses, support local government services, and rebuild roads and bridges in the region.

Governor Stein emphasized the urgency of federal support, noting that nearly a year has passed since Hurricane Helene struck and nine months since Congress last appropriated recovery funds.
