Authorities are investigating a triple death after they recovered the bodies of three people, including two young children, in Lake Michigan over the weekend in connection with an "apparent domestic dispute ."

The bodies belong to a 31-year-old woman, a 6-year-old boy and an infant girl, the Chicago Police Department told USA TODAY via email on Monday, Sept. 15.

According to police, two days earlier at about 11:20 a.m. local time, officers responded after an unidentified female infant was recovered from the water. First responders then pronounced the child dead.

This happened in the city's Jackson Park neighborhood, about 8 miles south of downtown.

About three hours later, just after 2:20 p.m. local time, officials recovered a 31-year-old woman's body and a 6-year-old boy's body.
