Savannah DeMelo, a midfielder for the NWSL’s Racing Louisville FC, is “stable and alert” after collapsing on the field during Racing’s game against Seattle Reign FC on Sunday, the team announced.
DeMelo sat down on the field before she appeared to faint in the final minutes of the first half at Lumen Field in Seattle. Medical personnel rushed to her aid on the field, and she was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation, Racing Louisville FC said in a news release . Players from both teams were visibly shaken and emotional following the incident.
The scoreless game between Racing and Seattle was postponed following the incident and will be rescheduled for a later date.
