SALT LAKE CITY — An occupant of a Grand Cherokee that crashed and then was hit by another vehicle died at a hospital on Sunday.
According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, the driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling west on I-84 near mile marker 103 (approximately 525 North) when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle left the roadway.
Nearby, a semitruck described as having an enclosed trailer was stopped on the shoulder of I-84. DPS officials said the Grand Cherokee hit that semitruck and then reentered traffic where it was hit by another vehicle, a Chevy Silverado.
Two people from the Grand Cherokee were hospitalized. One of them died from their injuries.
After evaluating the other drivers and passengers on the scene DPS said nobody else was injured.
