A Jefferson County man remained in the Columbia County Jail on Monday following a fatal wreck on Friday in which his passenger was killed, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

The wreck claimed the life of 39-year-old Raven Danielle Walker of Stapleton, a small town located just north of Wrens.

The sheriff’s office said Walker was a passenger in a Chrysler Pacifica driven by Mark Alan McCarty, 55, of the same address in Stapleton.

McCarty is charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, DUI, driving too fast for conditions, a safety seat violation, and having an open container of alcohol.

The wreck occurred about 7:10 p.m. along White Oak Road near Morris Callaway Road near Appling, according to the report.
