‘It was necessary’ – Roma boss stands over decision to rest Evan Ferguson with Irish striker set for Rome derby return

Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini says he stands over his decision to rest Ireland striker Evan Ferguson for their Serie A fixture last weekend even though the game saw Roma lose their unbeaten run.

But Ferguson is almost certain to return to the starting XI for the Rome derby next Sunday when he gets his first taste of how big a fixture that Roma-Lazio game is.
