ALLEN, Texas — Orca Wiesblatt, who played hockey for the Allen Americans, died over the weekend in a car accident, the team said.
Wiesblatt, 25, had signed with the ECHL's Americans last month. Prior to that, he played under now-Americans Coach Steve Martinson for the Athens Rock Lobsters in the Federal Prospects Hockey League.
“We are all heartbroken,” said Americans Head Coach and GM Martinson in a statement. “Orca (Weisblatt) was really looking forward to this next step in his hockey career. He wasn’t just skilled, he was a momentum-changing hitter. I can still see his grin when he would return to the bench after one of his big hits. That is what we will miss the most, his infectious smile.”
Last season in the FPHL, Wiesblatt had 42 points in 37 games. He first debuted in the 2023-2
