BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor City Council has elected Councilor Rick Fournier to take over as the new council chair in a 5-2 vote.
The council held a special meeting late Monday afternoon to fill the vacancy after former chair, Cara Pelletier, stepped down because of “personal attacks.”
Fournier will serve as the new chair until November. He has previously served as council chair twice before.
Fournier says he plans on following his predecessor's agenda, which he says is mainly focused on housing.
Pelletier was elected to the council in 2022 and served as its chair for two years.
She submitted a letter of resignation to city officials on Sept. 9, two months before her term was set to end.
