Bethany Beach Police's former chief and the department's former second-in-command will serve prison time for overtime fraud.

Michael Redmon, who was chief of the beach town’s police for more than two decades, was sentenced by a federal judge on Sept. 15 to 13 months in prison and a $50,000 fine. He will also have to pay restitution to the town of Bethany Beach for some $81,000 he stole through fraudulent overtime claims over a five-year period.

Former Capt. Darin Cathell was sentenced to two months in prison followed by a period of house arrest and probation, as well as a $25,000 fine.

Delaware District Court Chief Judge Colm Connolly told both of the men that a sentence of imprisonment is demanded by a need to restore trust in law enforcement.
