The Montreal Canadiens appear to like where they’re headed.
After a surprise playoff appearance last season, the team is talking to president Jeff Gorton and general manager Kent Hughes about contract extensions, Sportsnet can confirm. TVA’s Renaud Lavoie first reported the news on Monday.
Gorton, 57, joined the Canadiens in 2021 on what was “believed to be a five-year contract,” according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman. That timeline would mean his deal is up after the coming 2025-26 season.
Hughes, 55, signed a five-year pact in January 2022.
Together, Gorton and Hughes have led the Canadiens to a turnaround that has thus far culminated in a drought-busting 2024 playoff appearance.
