HERMON -- Maine residents and members of the Hermon GOP are remembering the life and contributions of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk.

Vigils for Kirk were held in Augusta, Bangor and Portland last week denouncing political violence. On Monday morning, a small group continued that message by gathering on the I-95 overpass on the Newburgh Road in Hermon for a flag waving in Kirk's memory.

Hermon GOP chair Danielle Haggerty says Kirk's message of love for God and America resonates throughout the country.

"The communities need to know that we are about love as a conservative organization and there's never a reason for violence," explained Haggerty. "We know if we go out there and peacefully share our message of our great country that will we lead the way for others to follow.
