MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Several Great Danes died after being locked in a parked van Saturday afternoon, the Madison Police Department said Monday.
A 68-year-old Madison woman now faces several charges of animal mistreatment.
MPD explained officers found seven Great Danes in the van just before 4 p.m. in the 400 block of Science Drive. The dogs had no access to air, food or water.
Two dogs were found dead, and MPD said the other dogs were experiencing various stages of heat stroke.
MPD reports three dogs needed to be euthanized because of the conditions they suffered.
A sixth dog is in critical condition, and a seventh dog was placed in the care of a dog breeder.
The Madison woman told officers she left the dogs inside the van when she left for work earlier that day, MPD recounted.
