Detroit — Despite orders from President Donald Trump and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer that U.S. flags on public buildings be flown at half-staff to honor slain political activist Charlie Kirk, multiple government structures in Detroit and Oakland County were not in compliance with the edict that ended Sunday.
The decrees by Trump and Whitmer were issued last Wednesday, hours after Kirk, who founded the conservative organization Turning Point USA, was gunned down by a sniper while he held an outdoor debate at Utah Valley University. Tyler Robinson, 22, has been accused of the killing, with capital murder charges expected to be filed against him as early as Tuesday.
