The recently resigned City of Nedlands councillors have opened up about the reasons behind their co-ordinated departure, revealing the inner-workings of a city they say was “falling apart at the seams”.
Four councillors — Noel Youngman, Ben Hodsdon, Hengameh Amiry and Fergus Bennett — quit their roles within hours of each other on Monday.
The outcome meant the council no longer had a quorum to function, which led to Local Government Minister Hannah Beazley sacking the rest of the council and appointing three commissioners.
Ms Beazley said the incoming trio of professionals, who are yet to be appointed, will effectively act as the council until at least the local government elections in October.
