No club in the Championship can have more players vying for one position than Birmingham City and their coveted number 10 spot.

Yet Chris Davies was still scouring the market for options in that position on the final day of the summer transfer window.

That suggests he isn’t completely enamoured by the players he has at his disposal.

Jay Stansfield started the opening three Championship games in the number 10 role and performed well, but it is clear that Blues’ attack is more dangerous with the 22-year-old spearheading it.

Davies toyed with Stansfield’s position last season in an attempt to accommodate Alfie May before arriving at the conclusion that Stansfield and the team functioned better without the latter.
