(WAND) - Much of Central Illinois is experiencing very dry conditions as the season inches closer to fall.
The conditions put the region at risk of wildfires, which is why many burn bans have been issued in communities and counties throughout the area.

The City of Athens issued a burn advisory Friday night, which will begin effective immediately and remain in effect until further notice.
Athens said in a press release Sept. 12 that all open burning, including bonfires, fire pits, brush piles and burn barrels, is prohibited.
The City added that charcoal and gas grills can be used only if attended at all times.
