The City of Wanneroo is considering reducing the speed limit along a portion of Wanneroo Road in an effort to improve road safety and make the area more pedestrian-friendly.

City officers are recommending that council support the installation of a variable speed limit in the Wanneroo Townsite, between Noonan Drive and Church Street, outside the Wanneroo Central Shopping Centre.

The area currently has a 60 km/h speed limit, but the city wants to introduce a 50km/h time-based speed zone, through 11 solar-powered signs.

If approved, the reduced speed limit is expected to operate between 7.30am and 10pm each day.

City of Wanneroo officers said they supported introducing the speed-limit changes as soon as possible to improve road safety.
