MEMPHIS, Tenn — Delta State University (DSU) staff found a dead body on campus on Monday.

According to DSU officials, university police and local authorities were immediately notified after staff found the body at around 7 a.m.

"At this time, we have no further details to share. Out of respect for the individual and their loved ones, we will refrain from additional comment until authorities release more information," said a statement from DSU. "Our community is deeply saddened by this loss. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends impacted."

At a press conference later the same day, university officials confirmed the identity of the deceased as 21-year-old student Trey Reed of Grenada, Mississippi.

He was found hanged near the pickleball courts at the university;
