ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- Anaheim police were involved in a shooting with a suspect early Monday afternoon that led a nearby elementary school to be temporarily placed on lockdown.

The incident was reported shortly after 12:30 p.m. The suspect was taken to the hospital in unknown condition, according to the Anaheim Police Department.

Officers responded to the scene after receiving a report of a suspicious person holding a brick, which was later updated to a shovel, the department said. Soon after officers located the suspect, a shooting occurred.

The officer-involved shooting happened in front of John Marshall Elementary School, near Falmouth Avenue and Holly Street.
