ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A man has pleaded guilty to charges connected to a fatal shooting that happened in downtown St. Louis in November 2023.
Derrick Rodgers, 34, pleaded guilty Monday to charges of second-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm. He was charged in the death of Deanthony Smith, 46, of the 1400 block of Locust Street.
Rodgers is already serving a 12-year sentence in federal prison for gun possession charges.
Police said their Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team took Rodgers into custody in May 2024.
Smith was shot in his lower leg around 3:38 p.m. Nov. 1, 2023 near the intersection of 14th and Market Streets in Downtown St. Louis. Paramedics transported him to the hospital, where he was initially listed in stable condition, ac
