Hammond man charged with child molesting
A Hammond man faces decades in prison after a preteen girl said he tried to have sex with her.
Gregory P. Swiontek II, 29, was charged Monday with Level 1 child molesting and Level 3 child molesting.
He’s in custody, held without bail.
East Chicago Police Det. Daniel Saliga wrote that an officer responded to an apartment on Sept. 13.
The victim’s mother told police her daughter texted her to come home, saying she was “scared” after Swiontek touched her inappropriately, documents allege.
She told police Swiontek went out that night with a friend to a Chicago strip club. He denied wrongdoing in a police interview.
