COLUMBUS, Ohio—Mike Gibbons, a Fairview Park investment banker and a Republican U.S. Senate candidate in 2018 and 2022, has died, according to a statement from his firm, Brown Gibbons Lang & Company.

Gibbons, 73, died of a heart attack Sunday evening while visiting his son Ryan in Norway, according to Wes Farno, Gibbons’ former political adviser. Funeral arrangements are still pending, Farno said.

A self-made millionaire, Gibbons spent generous amounts of his money on philanthropy, conservative causes, and -- later in his life -- seeking higher office himself.

A native of Parma, Gibbons played football at St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, then for Kenyon College before earning a master’s degree in business management from Case Western Reserve University.
