PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- Two Peoria teens were arrested last Friday on weapons and burglary charges in connection with a traffic stop.

The two boys, both 16, were nabbed after a traffic stop in the 1500 block of West Margaret Avenue. One of the boys tried to run away after the 8:46 a.m. stop Friday morning and injured his arm, according to Semone Roth, a police spokeswoman.

A gun, she said, was found where he was running. He faces charges of resisting, police, unlawful possession of a firearm and criminal damage to property among others but due to his injuries, he was released to the custody of his mother, Roth said.

The arrests stemmed from an incident two hours earlier on West Gilbert Avenue where police were sent after people reported hearing gunshots.
