TWIGGS COUNTY, Ga. — Julia Asherman tends to three acres of organic vegetables and cut flowers at her small farm in Twiggs County, but she's worried that operations like hers could soon become a thing of the past.
A proposed $5 billion data center , which would consume nearly 300 acres of farmland and timber, with potential to expand to 900 acres, goes before county commissioners Thursday night for a final vote.
For Asherman and other rural residents, the project represents more than just another development.
"My first initial thought about the data center was that that is going to benefit the very wealthy companies that are that have the interest in having the data center, much more than it'll benefit any of us in Twiggs County," Asherman said.
