Jury selection began on Monday in a rape trial for a man who allegedly faked his death and used aliases to evade capture.

Nicholas Rossi, whose legal name is Nicholas Alahverdian, is accused of raping his ex-girlfriend in September 2008. Opening arguments in the Utah trial could start later this week, NBC News reported.

The accuser in Alahverdian's Utah County case, identified in court papers obtained by NBC News as K.P., said she began dating Alahverdian in the summer of 2008 after meeting on MySpace. K.P. said she ended the relationship after he became increasingly aggressive and failed to pay back money he owed her.

She alleged that Alahverdian raped her when she went to his home in September 2008, believing that he was going to pay her back, NBC News reported.
