MONROE – A Washtenaw County judge has ruled that a Monroe County commissioner did not vacate his seat while he was serving prison time for federal drug charges.
In an order obtained by The Blade, Judge Carol Kuhnke ordered that former Monroe County Commissioner Mark Brant’s incarceration in federal prison does not mean that he vacated his position in any of the ways described in the Michigan Compiled Law 201.3, which governs vacancies in elected offices.
Additionally, the judge granted Brant’s request that the county recognize him as the District 2 county commissioner at the expiration of the court’s stay.
