Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum will become the first woman to lead the celebration of the 215th anniversary of Mexican Independence.

The holiday, also known as “El Grito de la Independencia,” is observed on September 15, when Mexico begins to celebrate its independence from Spain.

On the night of September 15, the President of Mexico delivers the “Cry of Dolores” from the balcony of the National Palace, joined by thousands of citizens waving flags and chanting cheers in honor of national heroes.

On September 16, military parades take place across the country, as the Armed Forces showcase their strength and pay tribute to the nation’s heroes.
