When enriching the lives of seniors is the objective, holding an open house and barbecue seems natural.

That’s what the Seaway Seniors Citizens Club did on Saturday at its 506 Pitt St. building.

Dozens of club members welcomed the public and prospective members to show them the fruits of being a member.

Take, for example, Helen McEwen.

“I have been a member for six months,” McEwen said.

Just in that short time, she started painting classes and is now able to display a nice collection of prints.

“We have all these activities, the people are very friendly,” McEwen said.

It doesn’t hurt the club attracts members who have considerable gifts, said club program coordinator Karen Douglass Cooper, citing the example of Bruni Nielsen, who relocated to Cornwall two years
