WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- The Sedgwick County Zoo has welcomed another new arrival.

Rubilee (pronounced Ruby Lee) was born during the zoo's annual Zoobilee event to mother Pearl. The zoo says her name is part of a tradition with the North American Prairie team to pick the name of a precious gem, in this case, combining Ruby with Zoobilee.

She has received her first vaccinations and was microchipped for identification. Bison are just one of the 20 unique animal species in the North American habitat at the Sedgwick County Zoo.

It's been a busy year of births at the zoo. Staff welcomed baby chimpanzee Kyansa in April, four new elephant calves, and even a Guam Kingfisher chick named Chacha earlier this month.
