ATLANTIC CITY — Imagine being able to bet on a game or a fight after it had already ended.
It might seem like a dream scenario for gamblers, but it repeatedly happened in recent years in bets placed with the online sportsbooks Fanatics and PointsBet, which Fanatics acquired in 2023.
The results were more like a nightmare for all involved: the gamblers who thought they had won had their bets canceled and their initial wagers returned to them.
And Fanatics was fined $55,000 for its own conduct as well as that of PointsBet before Fanatics acquired it.
Details of the fine were made public last week after The Press of Atlantic City requested them. The state Division of Gaming Enforcement posted a notice of the fine on its website but did not provide any supporting details.
