A Lawrence man has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting that happened in the city Sunday night, the Essex County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday afternoon.

Damien Manuel German, 25, pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery resulting in serious bodily injury and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building during his arraignment in Lawrence District Court on Monday, the district attorney’s office said in a press release.

The shooting happened on the night of Sept. 14 on Newbury Street in Lawrence, the district attorney’s office said. The victim’s identity has not been released, as authorities are still notifying their family of their death.
