NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - Voters in Northampton will head to the polls on Tuesday for a preliminary election that will narrow the field of candidates in several key races ahead of the city's November general election.

On the ballot are preliminary contests for mayor, city councilor at-large, and city councilor in Wards 1, 3, and 5.

When more than two candidates seek the same seat, a preliminary election is required to determine who advances to the municipal ballot in November.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at locations across the city: • Ward 1, Precincts A & B: Jackson Street School, 120 Jackson St. • Ward 2, Precincts A & B: Smith Vocational School, 80 Locust St. • Ward 3, Precincts A & B: Senior Center, 67 Conz St. • Ward 4, Precincts A & B: Senior Center, 67 Con
