A Calgary resident is calling on the City to take action against what she describes as hazardous weed growth in her northwest neighbourhood.
Nolan Hill resident Kristina Kotik has started an online petition demanding that the city address the spread of weeds such as foxtail and Canadian thistle, which she says are growing unchecked in public spaces, including bus shelters, medians, and pathways.
According to Kotik, the weeds pose health risks, particularly foxtail, which she cites as a danger to humans due to its potential to cause coughing, lung irritation, and even pneumonia.
“The weeds produce seeds that spread to our backyards and lungs,” Kotik told CityNews, expressing frustration over what she sees as a lack of response from city officials.
