HOUSTON — The Astros have had more than their fair share of injuries this season. On Monday, they had another one.
Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez, who spent most of this season on the injured list with a broken bone in his hand, appeared to injure himself when he slipped on home plate while scoring in the first inning of Houston’s series-opening game against Texas.
In video posted to social media, you can see Alvarez running at full speed to beat a throw from Rangers right fielder Adolis Garcia. He safely crosses with Houston’s second run of the inning, but appeared to slip on the plate and then was in apparent pain.
Alvarez left the game and then Just after 8 p.m., the Astros posted about it, saying he suffered a sprained ankle. At this point, we don't know how long Alvarez will be ou
