Man, 33, arrested in mattress fire, stabbing that killed woman, 38, in L.A.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal mattress fire in a Westside Los Angeles apartment late last week, officials announced.

On Sept. 12, Los Angeles firefighters were sent to the two-story apartment building on the 10300 block of West Bellwood Avenue in Century City around 5:45 a.m.

Smoke was seen coming from a second-floor unit as crews arrived, the L.A. Fire Department stated and added that the flames were confined to the mattress inside the unit where the blaze started.

Crews discovered a 38-year-old woman in the apartment with critical burn injuries and also observed injuries consistent with a stabbing, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a Monday news release.
