MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. — The Indiana Department of Correction is requesting $15.8 million dollars from the Indiana State Budget Agency to pay for necessary upgrades to the Miami Correctional Facility as the prison prepares to house ICE detainees .

"The facility will require a series of infrastructure upgrades and equipment acquisitions," the request said in the Sept. 17 budget committee agenda .

IDOC spokesperson Annie Goeller said the request was made, "in order to meet the needs of the facility."

As 13News previously reported , IDOC is making up to 1,000 beds available for detainees at the high-medium security prison.

Goeller said while there is no definitive timeline, the prison could begin taking in detainees sometime after Oct. 1, despite the necessary upgrades, "to meet federal stand
