(NewsNation) — Utah's top law enforcement official said Monday that significant evidence in the assassination of Charlie Kirk will be made public following the suspect's court appearance, as investigators work to understand what motivated a 22-year-old college student to allegedly gun down the conservative activist.

Beau Mason, commissioner of Utah's Department of Public Safety, told NewsNation’s “CUOMO” that Tyler Robinson’s family played a crucial role in his peaceful surrender to authorities after the Wednesday shooting at Utah Valley University.

"We have good evidence that we can bring out later that shows maybe his thought process with how this would play out," Mason said. "Right now, I just can't speak to that until after those charges are formally filed."
