Monday is the last day to register a wood-burning fireplace or stove with Metro Vancouver.

Metro Vancouver says the registration is free.

The registration is part of a bylaw that was adopted in 2020 to protect air quality and reduce wood smoke.

Failure to register by the deadline will result in the prohibition of using unregistered wood-burning appliances in urban zones after that date.

The district also offers rebates of up to $1500 to upgrade to cleaner wood-burning models or heat pumps instead.
