Egged on by media empires that value profit among all else, we have become a highly partisan nation. The media do everything they can to keep us angry or afraid rather than well informed. Because that is where the money is to be made. We should try to understand those who disagree with us, not dismiss or ridicule them.

In his farewell address, George Washington warned us about the dangers of political parties to subvert the will of the people. We now have a political system made up of winners and losers with major policy changes at each election cycle.
