Sliding through the middle of September without an active system in the tropics is a bit unorthodox, especially considering the statistical peak of the Atlantic hurricane season occurred just last week. The recent lull in activity, while appreciated, is a bit curious.

However, the quiet is expected to give way to development in the central Atlantic waters over the next few days as a broad area of low pressure is likely to pull together to become a tropical depression.
