SALT LAKE CITY — One man is in jail after allegedly starting a fire in Tooele that burned just under 22 acres Saturday.
According to the Tooele City Police Department, the fire started near 1266 North Main St. at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
In a Facebook post , police said both the Tooele City Fire Department and Police Department responded to the fire. Upon their arrival, one officer spotted 59-year-old Stephen May walking away from the fire.
The officer then stopped May and asked him if he knew how the fire started. Police said that after a “short conversation,” May admitted to intentionally starting the fire.
It burnt a total of 21.9 acres, getting close to but not damaging any structures. No injuries were reported; however, in a probable cause statement, police said som
