LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
As colder weather approaches, an annual effort to keep kids warm is just getting started.
The 5th annual Chase Gavin Coat-A-Kid drive began on Monday.
Gavin, who passed away in 2021, helped organize the winter coat donation drive while working for then Metro Councilman David Yates.
Now State Sen. Yates is joining city leaders to carry on the giving tradition.
Last year, the drive collected more than 600 coats and $10,000 in donations.
"Then every dollar went to buying new coats. This year, we aim to exceed those numbers with the help of the incredible community of residents and business owners across Jefferson County," said Metro Councilman Khalil Batshon.
