MADISON (WKOW) -- The Badger Challenge kicks off this week, bringing the community together to support cancer research at UW-Madison.

Now in its 10th year, the event raises money and awareness in the fight against cancer. For one family, it also marks a decade of remission.

"For us, it's really a chance to share her story, talk to people, provide a little bit of hope and a little understanding on why it's so important to give back," said Anthony Diaz, father of Olivia Diaz.

Olivia Diaz has been in remission for nearly 10 years. Her family said the Badger Challenge is a meaningful way to spread a message of hope.

Participants can take part in events ranging from a 100-mile bike ride to a half marathon or a 5K walk.

WKOW is a proud sponsor of the Badger Challenge.
