BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Hundreds of people are set to celebrate Mexico's independence Monday night in downtown Bakersfield.

Sept. 16 marks the 204th year of Mexican independence from Spain. The Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual celebration Monday night from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The festivities take place at the Liberty Bell outside the Kern County Superior Courthouse at the corner of Truxtun and Chester avenues. You can watch coverage of the festivities online on this webpage from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.

There are several street closures in place for the event. • Truxtun Avenue is closed between Chester Avenue and L Street starting at 5 p.m.
