LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -Hundreds of demonstrators made their way to the steps of the Michigan State Capitol Monday to mourn and honor conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

Kirk was killed in a shooting at Utah Valley University, sending shockwaves across the nation.

Kirk’s death has raised concerns for politicians, from the local to the national scale. Just last week, Michigan Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist received a bomb threat to his home, which he said encouraged him to speak out on political violence.

“We cannot let this remain our reality,” said Gilchrist.

The murder of Kirk has put safety in the spotlight of American politics.
