ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – UNM linebacker Jaxton Eck was a thorn in the side of the UCLA Bruins offense in a 35-10 New Mexico upset on the road last Friday. Eck was rewarded for his efforts and named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Eck had a game-high 11 tackles, five solo, in the win. He had 5 tackles in the fourth quarter alone and also tipped a pass to cause an interception by teammate Tavian Combs. The win for the Lobos was the first over a Power 4 opponent since 2008. The defense also allowed the fewest points to a power conference team since 2002.

The Lobos are on a bye week and return to action Sept. 27 when they host in-state rival New Mexico State. Game time at University Stadium will be 2 p.m.
