(NAPSI)—This Hispanic Heritage Month, the American Red Cross is shining a spotlight on the lifesaving generosity of Latino and Hispanic blood donors—whose contributions are critical to patient care and community resilience.

Latinos are uniquely vital to the nation’s blood supply: nearly 60% have type O blood—the type most often used in emergencies when seconds count. Last year alone, more than 180,000 Latino donors rolled up a sleeve, a 7% increase over the year before. This momentum continues with approximately 50 blood drives this month hosted in partnership with local Latino organizations across the country.
